Governments and policy makers have tended to focus on economic indicators of success, but there is a growing realisation that economic growth and consumption have little bearing on how citizens perceive the quality of their lives. We are working closely with Government and social policy organisations to ensure that the measurement of well-being is taken seriously as an indicator of the success of governmental policies. The WBI led the design of the Well-being module used for the first time in 2007 as part of the European Society Survey.

The Well-being Institute has provided major input into the government's Foresight Project on Mental Capital and Well-being.
