A feasibility study undertaken as a collaboration between members of the Oncology and Psychiatry Departments, involving simple, brief psychological interventions to increase well-being in cancer patients has recently been completed in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. A CD based on mindfulness meditation and visualisation has been developed for this project, together with a specially designed diary for the daily recording of positive experiences. Results indicate a significant benefit of this brief intervention on subjective measures of quality of life, and on general levels of functioning in groups of women with breast cancer and men with prostate cancer.
